We are the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Assembly Government and are responsible for distributing funds from the National Lottery to sport in Wales. Sports Council for Wales’ main focus is to persuade people who take little or no exercise to become more active and to encourage people, young and old, to take part in a range of physical activities to improve their health and fitness.

Type of work funded
The Sports Council for Wales funds projects that develop grassroots sport and phsyical activity projects or help in the achievement of excellence.
Range of grant size: minimum– maximum
Funding schemes range from the small Community Chest scheme that funds projects up to £750 right up to the major capital projects which have no upper limit.

Our main focus is to increase the number of people taking part in sport and physical activity. We want to get people more active by taking part in a range of different activities to become healthier. Our priorities are:
