In its first year, the project took on ten unemployed young people from around Cambridgeshire and offered them the chance to work on the delivery, programming and marketing of several outdoor film screenings as well as providing training sessions with industry experts. In 2011, the team expanded to 15 volunteers and even more events, including spectacular ‘On Location’ screenings in locations such as Rendlesham Forest, Wrest Park gardens and the Lee Valley Olympic White Water Centre.
Volunteers were given guidance tailored to their needs and ambitions and received training from the trust’s employees, as well as other industry experts in relevant areas such as programming, marketing, risk assessment and event management before working towards organising the on-site affairs at the events themselves. One member of staff at the Fitzwilliam Museum, a screening venue, commented that the team of young volunteers were the “most organised team she has dealt with”, showing the quality and impact of the training on offer.
Screen Team was funded by Legacy Trust UK
