About the project

The project works with those who are isolated through mental health issues and learning disabilities, or are carers who spend most of their time looking after someone else. The activities that they offer, such as singing, songwriting, arts, photography and animation are designed to increase participants' self-confidence, ability to think clearly and logically, and their interpersonal skills, so that they can become more involved in their local community and, in some cases, feel able take part in mainstream college courses or other learning opportunities.

Moving on provides a safe environment where participants and can grow and develop before taking on the challenges of the world outside, and it certainly seems to be working: since taking part in their activities people have gone on to achieve teaching qualifications, take courses in printmaking, floristry and textiles, submit creative writing articles for publication, find part-time jobs in shops and cafes and even become a trustee of a local charity!

Moving On was funded by The Big Lottery Fund
