It also makes a significant contribution to the UK economy with an estimated annual turnover of £5 billion employing 47,413 people, many of whom are in highly skilled jobs. In 2004 there were 171 million visits to the cinema in the UK: British films are watched by millions of people around the world promoting Britain abroad and boosting tourism.
