The Bolton Lads and Girls club is in the top 10 per cent of deprived wards in England. The club had a proud history spanning 100 years but the old facilities were falling apart and needed a lot of money spending on them. The local area was dependant on the club to keep the community active and off the streets.

Sport England invested Lottery funding to refurbish the club and transform it into a modern multi-sports club.  

 

New facilities include sport halls, a boxing gym, a dance and aerobics centre, fitness and weights room, additional activity centre, a five-a-side football floodlit pitch and support facilities.

Why was this project so good?

The application showed that it met Sport England North West's  regional priorities. Its project was sustainable in environmental, social and financial terms.  The project would also increase participation for priority groups (older people, those on a low income, those with a disability, girls and women, black and minority ethnic groups and young people).
