Black Environment Network (BEN) works across the UK to help ethnic minority communities take part in the world around them, whether it’s natural or man made.

Lottery funding in Scotland paid for their group to organise a training day, which included making a One World Quilt workshop.

Why was this project so good?

This project gave participants the chance to think and talk about their local surroundings.  As people worked together to make a quilt out of recycled materials, they were encouraged to talk about local problems and discuss solutions in a new, creative way.  This helped them feel part of their local community.
